Artist statement:
As a ceramicist and a painter, my work is created based on observing and appreciating the small moments in life. I am interested in being able to slow down in life, especially in hectic times where my world and head seem to be overwhelming. The ability to sit and notice the world around you is super important to me. Such as the way light hits an object at a certain time of day, the act of listening, feeling your surroundings, and truly appreciating a moment. I like to focus my art on that feeling of being present and appreciating those still moments.
I explore these feelings through both ceramics and paintings. In my ceramic work, I make forms that relate to these feelings, and provoke that same emotion. While my paintings capture these moments of observation and appreciation. I am interested in combining these two mediums together to create art that exists between the two categories of painting and ceramics.
My recent work has also had a connection to grief, and the way I processed all these emotions. I continue to carry certain motifs throughout my work as a form of grounding myself. These repeated elements show the sense of growth over time, but also a sense of connection to those that I have loved and lost. Throughout my art, I hope to honor these connections, and memories, while also finding beauty in the still moments and growth in repetition.
