My name is Quaid Baker, and I live in Buffalo, NY. My primary medium is paper collage cutouts. I enjoy working with paper for its elementary and bold properties, as well as its accessibility. The inherent restrictions that collage cutouts can present, I believe, are what allow me to strike a balance between simplicity and detail. X-acto blades feel similar in many ways to a marker, with the permanence they create. The subject of my work is often something that holds its own merit—places and things that hold their own meaning and
evoke a feeling. When interpreted in paper cutouts, subjects lend themselves to having a sense of humor and ingrained humility, creating a theme that invites introspection, contemplation, and laughter. My inspiration is drawn from everyday life, direct-to-DVD movies, architecture, graffiti, and transportation.
