Hunt Residencies IX
Painting for me is a meditative process. It's a break from the monotony of day-to-day life and a chance to relinquish control. I let the movement of paint begin the story and use linework to complete the narrative. My artwork is fluid, ethereal, and playful. I am inspired by Folk Art, dreams, and the softness and spontaneity of the natural world. Recently, I have been working on creating collages and small sculptures. I like to experiment and try new mediums whenever I can.
Final Exhibition Statement
The work produced during my time at Hunt has been experimental. I played with contrasting watercolor textures against stark opaque backgrounds. I removed the negative space that usually encompasses my pieces for chaotic bursting scenes. I explored colors outside my usual pallets in favor of pale pinks, blues, and greens.
This series of work has been inspired by the artists in my cohort and the synergy that comes from working on a collective goal. My pieces focus on interconnectedness and the joys and burdens that come with adhering to the systems in place.
